DWL-7100AP revB Management Module: Setup & Configuration Tips
Optimizing Performance on the DWL-7100AP revB Management Module
1) Firmware & management software
- Install latest firmware for revB (use D-Link support: DWL-7100AP_REVB_FIRMWARE_2.20).
- Update AP Manager / D-View module to matching versions (e.g., 2.20) so the management module and AP firmware are compatible.
2) Radio & channel settings
- Use dual‑band effectively: separate SSIDs or roles for 2.4 GHz (clients) and 5 GHz (backhaul/bridging).
- Select non‑overlapping channels: 2.4 GHz use channels 1, 6, 11; 5 GHz pick least congested UNII channels allowed in your region.
- Disable Turbo/Xtreme mode unless all client devices support it—it can cause instability; prefer standard 802.11a/g rates for reliability.
3) Transmit power & coverage
- Lower TX power in dense deployments to reduce co‑channel interference; raise where coverage is weak.
- Antenna orientation: ensure antennas are vertical and unobstructed; relocate AP away from metal/large obstructions.
4) Network configuration & QoS
- Enable QoS / traffic prioritization for voice and critical apps (use 802.1p/DSCP mapping if available).
- VLAN segmentation: place management, guest, and high‑priority traffic on separate VLANs to reduce broadcast domains and contention.
- Limit DHCP lease times for guest networks to reduce table exhaustion in high‑turnover environments.
5) Security & client behavior
- Use WPA2 (AES) or WPA3 if supported; avoid WEP/TKIP—these reduce throughput and security.
- Monitor and block legacy, noisy clients (802.11b) or force them on 2.4 GHz only to prevent rate‑fallback across the network.
6) Monitoring, logging & tuning
